Issues Facing Montanans

There are many pocketbook issues that have Carbon County residents concerned!  I will listen and advocate.  Let me know…kim4Carbonco@gmail.com

Property Taxation

Homeowners and small businesses in Carbon County, and other areas of Montana, are taking the brunt of property tax increases!  We homeowners now pay over 50% of the property tax in our state…up from 40% a few years back and are facing $200 plus million tax increase/year.  The  2023 legislative leadership Ignored that everyday Montanans are facing financial hardships and rejected the solutions used in the past to reduce rates! In fact, they are blaming local governments!

Affordable Housing

Other states and communities are tackling affordable housing—and the need for workforce housing. Montana’s legislature once again is trying to solve the problem with trickle down economics! In Carbon County, we need state assistance, not state-level zoning! There are ways to help areas and Carbon County…it takes “know how”. As former Chair of Local Government, I will work with local groups to come up with solutions that work for rural communities.

Healthcare

Montana is taking a step backward!. Since Medicaid Expansion, the rate of uninsured has dropped; hundreds of thousands of Montanans have access to affordable health care and more than 70% are able to work.  The Governor’s recent purge of Medicaid will not only hurt low income Montana families and children, but, hurt health care providers—especially in rural areas.

Children and Families

Our state legislature should not be taking away freedoms or interfering in the privacy of families.  Yet, in the 2023 session, there were terrible bills which hurt our local public schools, try to tell families how to raise their children and ignore our rural values and way of life.
